There are close to one million people living in Westchester County. There are over 200,000 people who are hungry right now.

There are over 3,000 people who are homeless. Most of the homeless live on the streets. A smaller percentage lives in homeless shelters. An even smaller number live with others, or even live in their cars. 

There are 72 food pantries38 soup kitchens, and 31 shelters — in total 141 homeless service providers — in Westchester County alone, all needed to sustain the hungry and homeless.


It costs $120 per day to house a family in a Westchester shelter.

It costs nearly $20 to feed a family for just one night.

NY awards $22M to help house homeless

ALBANY, N.Y. — New York has awarded $22 million in grants to seven groups statewide for establishing 489 housing units for homeless individuals and families.

The grants for projects in Albany, Bronx, Jefferson, Kings, Monroe, and Westchester counties are from the state Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance.

They include $3.2 million for DePaul Properties in Monroe County to establish 33 housing units for homeless with disabilities, part of $161 million committed for similar projects to better manage needs and expenses of high-cost Medicaid clients.

Other grants are $6 million for CAMBA Housing Ventures in Brooklyn and $5.7 million for Concern for Independent Living and $3.2 million for New Destiny, both in the Bronx.

Westhab in Westchester gets $2.3 million, Support Ministries in Albany $1.1 million; and Victims Assistance Center of Jefferson County, $800,000.
